Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, has been appointed by The Queen to serve as a Commonwealth War Graves Commissioner.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission was established by Royal Charter in 1917, and works to commemorate the 1.7 million Commonwealth service men and women who died in the World Wars.
Kevan attended the rededication of Sacriston War Memorial on 8 October.
The War Memorial has been relocated to the heart of the village, in front of the Fulforth Centre, and the service allowed the village an opportunity to remember all those from Sacriston who have lost their lives serving their country.
The Royal British Legion has launched a new, free handy-person service to help people who are unable to carry out small repairs in their homes. To be eligible for the 'Poppy Calls' scheme, you need to have served at least seven days in the Armed Forces, or be the dependant of somebody who has served.

Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, has criticised the government's decision to stop loans or grants to struggling companies, as the Geka Manufacturing factory in Stanley is left facing closure and the loss of 130 jobs.
In June, Kevan visited Tanfield School to see the business ideas of Year 10 students taking part in Maths Enterprise Week, which was run as a partnership between the Maths Department, the Derwentside Enterprise Agency and Formica Group.
Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, will visit a coffee afternoon at Ouston Infants School on Friday 11th June at 2pm, which is being held as part of 1 Goal Day.
Kevan recently went to Ouston Junior School where he presented certificates to pupils from the Ouston and Pelton Brass Band, who had recently successfully completed their exams.
Kevan Jones, Member of Parliament for North Durham, will be the Keynote Speaker at the official launch of Stanley Town Council’s ‘Strategic Town Plan 2009-2014. The launch will take place at Stanley Community Centre on Tyne Road from 5.30pm on Wednesday 31st March.
